Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh book review

In Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case by Violet Marsh, we follow Georgina Harrington, an intelligent and determined archaeologist who struggles to gain recognition in a male-dominated field during this historical time period. Forced to present her findings under her cousin Percy's name, Georgina is thrust into turmoil when Percy mysteriously disappears with her latest discovery. Concerned for his safety, she enlists the help of Alexander Lovett, Percy's charming yet infuriating best friend. As they embark on a quest to find Percy, they navigate societal pressures, battle personal demons, and confront the expectations placed upon them by their families. Set against the backdrop of the 1750s, the story blends romance, humor, and intrigue, as Georgina and Alexander discover their undeniable chemistry while dealing with the complexities of their lives and the threat looming over the monarchy.

I loved the funny parts of this book!  The roster/chicken fad of the ton is hilarious.  Georgina and Alexander's chemistry is palpable as they navigate their own insecurities and family pressures, making their relationship feel genuine and relatable. The witty banter and engaging dialogue add depth to their interactions, inviting readers to root for their romance. Furthermore, the historical setting offers a fresh perspective on gender roles and societal expectations, making it not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. With a mix of endearing characters, unexpected twists, and a charming subplot involving a supportive found family, this book promises to satisfy any reader's craving for a captivating romantic adventure.  I really enjoyed the tight knit group of supportive friends. I think the author portrayed how a disability might have been perceived at the time (interesting to think about). The cover was a good reflection of parts of the story.  This book is the second book in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone.  It's got some spicy scenes, but I think the mystery is the major point.  There is some violence and fighting that will get your adrenaline pumping.  I really liked it and it's a perfect weekend read when you are in the mood for a good historical romance.

The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy book review

The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy is a dramatic romance that follows Chrissy Parks and Deacon Youngblood, a couple who unexpectedly win a cruise ticket while performing a dance in outrageous costumes. As they prepare for their role-playing-themed cruise, Deacon surprises Chrissy with a marriage proposal. However, Chrissy, still grappling with her past divorce, panics and declines, leading to a breakup. Despite the tension, neither is willing to give up their cruise ticket, resulting in an awkward journey aboard the Sovereign of the Sea. With Deacon determined to win Chrissy back and lingering feelings from her ex-husband complicating matters, the cruise becomes a backdrop for self-discovery and potential reconciliation. Amidst humorous situations and unexpected encounters, Chrissy must navigate her emotions and decide whether to embrace a second chance at love or abandon ship altogether.

The dual perspectives provide a deeper understanding of Chrissy and Deacon's motivations, while the forced proximity of the cruise setting adds to the comedic tension. The exploration of relationship dynamics, including miscommunication and the challenges of moving on from past relationships, resonates with many readers. The lighthearted tone and humorous situations keep the story entertaining, making it a perfect escape. Additionally, the unique twist of a LARPing cruise adds an adventurous element, enhancing the romantic escapade. With memorable characters and a satisfying journey toward love, this book is a delightful read for anyone who enjoys a mix of humor, romance, and self-discovery.  There is a lot of drama and some sexy times.  I think some of the past reviews went in a little hard on a book that is meant to be a fun escape.  This would be THE perfect book to pack for a cruise.  I  think it would also appeal to fans of Below Deck and Dr. Odyssey - ship romances are having a moment!

Holiday With a Hitman #2: A Very Merry Hitman by Katie Reus book review

In "A Very Merry Hitman," Aileen navigates life in a neighborhood filled with hitmen, including her own family. As a single mom and ASMRtist, she’s stopped dating because of a violent past with a man.  A decade after the incident, she thinks she might be ready to consider a date or friends with benefits.  She decides to ask her neighbor Dante, an intimidating hitman, for help. However, when he hesitates, Aileen takes it as a rejection. But just as she yes to a blind date set up by her sister-in-law, danger strikes as two Santas attempt to rob her. This prompts Dante to take action, stepping up to protect Aileen and her daughter, Nessa. The story unfolds with a delightful mix of holiday cheer, suspense, and a slow-burning romance as Dante and Aileen confront their feelings amidst the chaos.

I'm a little torn on the classification of this book.  On the one hand, is it dark romance because of all the hitmen and death at their hands?  Or it is a sweet Christmas romance? It's definitely unique, with some morally grey areas.  The chemistry between Aileen and Dante is palpable, providing a sizzling romance that keeps readers reading!  Once they start.....whoooooo boy..... Aileen's relatable struggles as a single mom make her an easy character to root for, while Dante's overprotective nature adds a twist to their relationship. The quirky interactions with Aileen's nosy family and their antics bring a delightful hitman sort of levity to the story. The dialogue is fun the plot is darkish and quirky, this book offers a new twist on the friends-to-lovers trope within a community of hitmen. The mix of danger and festive cheer creates an one of a kind of reading experience that will leave fans craving more from the series.  I really liked it.  It's a quick read.  I meant to read it before Christmas, but I just now finished in March.   I still recommend for anytime of the year...but if you want your holiday books during the holidays, hold on to this one for December.

Cosmic Chaos #1:I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I'm Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming book review

Dorothy (Dory) Valentine, is a nearly PhD wildlife biology student who dreams of being a zoologist. Her life takes a wild turn when she is attacked by a lion and subsequently abducted by aliens. She crash-lands on a vibrant planet filled with dinosaurs and meets two alluring alien males, Sol and Lok. The story blends humor, adventure, and unexpected romance as Dory navigates her chaotic new reality. The aliens’ forced attraction through a hormone-laced dart and guage measuring their attraction by a owilsh voyeur. With a mix of comedy and thrilling escapades, Dory must confront her feelings and the bizarre circumstances that brought her to this unusual world. Does she want to get back to earth?

I will admit that the alien romance is not my usual choice.  The title stuck out to me along with the wild cover.  I couldn't resist.   Readers will appreciate the unique premise that combines sci-fi elements with romantic tropes. The witty banter and strong character development make Dorothy relatable, while her interactions with the charming but dangerous aliens, Sol and Lok, create a compelling MMF love triangle. The humor and chaos keep the pace lively, ensuring an entertaining read. Additionally, the underlying themes of consent and self-discovery add layers to the sexy escapades. Readers drawn to fantastical settings, strong female leads, and steamy MMF dynamics will find this book enticing. The wild and wacky plot, quirky characters, and vibrant world make it a delightful escape for those seeking to push their romance boundaries. I thought it was fun, but totally wild.  It won't be for every reader.  You have to go into it suspending your expectations of reality...but then you can start counting the creative ways Dory gets her orgasms.  There might be an underlying message about the incompetence of bureaucracy, which clearly transcends all alternate realities 🤣

A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal: #2 The Queen’s Deadly Damsels by Darcy McGuire book review

This book follows Millicent Whittenburg, a clever and resourceful heroine determined to escape her unpleasant betrothal to an older man, Viscount Tread, orchestrated by her wicked stepmother. To reclaim her freedom, Millicent devises a scandalous plan to ruin her reputation, but her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Major General Beaufort Drake, a cold and battle-scarred private investigator for the Prime Minister. Their fiery kiss ignites undeniable chemistry, leading to a marriage of convenience that neither anticipated. As they navigate a week-long wedding house party while investigating a dangerous human trafficking scheme, the stakes rise, testing their bond. With a blend of romance, espionage, and intrigue, this novel artfully intertwines passion and mystery against the rich backdrop of Regency England.

While Millicent sets out to trap Drake, the unexpected chemistry between them is super fun. As the reader, I didn’t expect that and neither did the characters! The author did a great job writing steamy romance with a twisty mystery. The book will suck you in and you won’t be able to put it down. Who doesn’t love spicy scenes, with some added knife throwing? The strong-willed female protagonist defies societal norms, and her group of friends add a lot of fun to the story. The novel's humor, emotional depth, and intricate plot ensure that readers experience a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving us anticipating the next installment in this exciting series.  I started out by reading book two in this series, but now I am going to go back and read the first and third one.

Book #4 Rebel Blue Ranch: Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage book review

Camille Ashwood has a plan to marry, secure her daughter’s future and make her parents happy. But when her fiancé leaves her at the altar, her life takes an unexpected turn. Finding herself living next door to Dusty Tucker, her high school sweetheart, sparks old feelings and unresolved issues. Dusty, who has been running from his past and his feelings for Cam, now faces the possibility of rekindling their relationship. Their journey is filled with emotional tension, as they navigate the complexities of their past while discovering if their love can withstand the test of time. With a blend of second-chance romance and small-town charm, this story revisits old and new characters at the Rebel Blue Ranch.

Oh man! I LOVED "Wild and Wrangled"! Camille is a strong, relatable heroine who embodies resilience while facing life's challenges as a single mother. Her character development resonates with readers, making her journey feel authentic and engaging. Dusty is the quintessential broody hero, and his deep-seated feelings for Cam add layers to their relationship that I loved and found myself hoping (right along with Dusty). I would say it is kind of a slow burn at the beginning, but then….whooooo-boy! Their connection is hot. I love their history and I wanted the backstory just as much as Ada did. The small-town ranch vibes are great, like the previous three books. Readers will be left swooning, rooting for Camille and Dusty’s happily-ever-after as they soak up their rekindled romance and watch news spread around town. I really like the family connections, the strong friendships and the hilarious characters. I’m sad that the series is over, but grateful that it was spread out over four books. The cover is to die for. It’s got the best vintage vibes that I have seen on a romance cover in a very long time.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing/Dial Press Trade Paperback for an ARC of this book.

Dream Harbor #1: The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore book review

In "The Pumpkin Spice Café," a spicy small-town cozy romance that has been trending on TikTok. Jeanie inherits the quaint Pumpkin Spice Café in Dream Harbor, seeking a fresh start from her dead end desk job. Her vibrant personality and delightful pumpkin spice lattes brighten the small town, but they also disrupt the life of Logan, a local farmer known for his grumpiness and avoidance of gossip. Despite his initial reluctance, Logan finds himself inexplicably drawn to Jeanie, leading to a mix of tension and chemistry between the two. As Jeanie's sunny demeanor attempts to crack Logan's tough exterior, readers are taken on a journey filled with humor, warmth, and a hint of mystery. While the story captures cozy autumn vibes and a grumpy x sunshine dynamic, it also explores themes of self-discovery and the joy of finding family in unexpected places. With a heartwarming ending guaranteed, this romantic mystery is perfect for a weekend read.

This book has been in romance circles for a while now and I just picked it up at a book store. (I'm a little late to the party)  I’m glad I didn’t look at the reviews before I read it. I loved it!. It was just as promised: cute, cozy, a bit of spice and and an HEA. All the things I am looking for in a small town romance. The reviews are brutal. Not enough spice, too much spice, too Hallmark movie. Yikes! The pumpkin spice vibe is a fun blend of cozy autumn atmosphere and engaging character dynamics. The grumpy x sunshine trope provides a compelling contrast that keeps the story lively, while Jeanie's cheerful spirit and Logan's brooding nature create a captivating push-and-pull. I love the small-town setting, which adds depth and charm to the narrative. The book also incorporates elements of found family and a hint of mystery, keeping readers invested in the characters’ journeys. The book ultimately delivers a comforting escape filled with relatable characters and heartwarming moments. This story is a perfect pick for those seeking a light-hearted read that evokes the essence of fall and the warmth of community. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series!

Lords of Hazard: Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart #1 by Sabrina Jeffries book review

In "Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart," author Sabrina Jeffries introduces readers to Lord Jonathan Leighton, who returns to England after being detained for eleven long years in a French prison during the Napoleonic Wars. Upon his return, he discovers that he has inherited the dukedom of Falconridge following the deaths of his father and brothers. Haunted by guilt over the death of his mentor, who entrusted him with the care of his daughter Victoria Morris, Jonathan resolves to help her secure a suitable marriage. However, Victoria, a passionate artist with dreams of opening a school for women, has no intention of marrying. As Jonathan and Victoria navigate their complicated pasts and burgeoning feelings for each other, secrets unfold, and they must confront their own vulnerabilities. This story weaves a tale of guilt, redemption, and love, set against the backdrop of a society that has changed in his absence.

Romance readers will love this book for its rich character development and emotional depth. The author crafts a narrative filled with witty banter and palpable chemistry between Jonathan and Victoria, making their journey toward love both engaging and relatable. Readers will appreciate the strong, independent heroine who defies societal expectations, as well as the tormented hero grappling with his past. It’s a little countercultural as the duke is interested in a governess. The inclusion of steamy moments, combined with the unique historical context of Napoleonic France and the struggles of reentering society, adds layers of intrigue. With a beautifully woven plot and unresolved mysteries, this novel promises a delightful escape into a world of historical romance, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. It’s well written, it’s fun and I think most historical romance readers will enjoy it. The publication date is April 29, 2025 so put it on your pre-order list! Not So Fast by Karen Booth book review

Not So Fast is a charming romantic comedy centered around Mia Neal, an enthusiastic Formula One podcaster known for her sharp opinions and insights (as a regular fan) into the sport. Mia's explosive take on the handsome British driver, Xander Bishop, garners unexpected attention, leading to a viral moment that thrusts her into the spotlight. When Xander's teammate invites Mia to the Miami Grand Prix, she hopes to gain a deeper understanding of Xander's racing style. Their first meeting did not go as expected, but there was definitely some chemistry! As they navigate their contrasting personalities, Mia's neurodiverse traits and Xander's struggles with his racing career create a suspenseful and fun dynamic. The story balances humor and emotion, exploring themes of self-awareness, mental health, and personal growth, all while keeping readers engrossed in the thrilling world of F1 racing.

Like many of the reviews are stating, I also did not/do not have much experience with the world of Formula 1 racing. So, I enjoyed learning about some of the terminology and realized that the author has to have a pretty good depth of knowledge to write all the details. I love the enemies-to-lovers storyline and the sizzling tension between Mia and Xander. The witty banter and genuine connection between the characters create an engaging reading experience. Mia's journey of self-discovery, coupled with Xander's vulnerability as a professional athlete, adds depth to the story. The book intertwines humor with heartfelt moments, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy light-hearted yet meaningful narratives. Additionally, the exploration of mental health and family dynamics adds authenticity to the story, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a personal level. With its fast-paced plot and relatable themes, Not So Fast is a must-read for fans of feel-good romances that leave a lasting impression. I’m glad I went out of my reading comfort zone with this book. It was a lot of fun and I could not put it down once I started it.

Scot and Bothered by Alexandra Kiley book review

Brooke Sinclair’s aspiration of becoming a published author faltered when she was expelled from the University of Edinburgh. Now a ghostwriter, she focuses on telling others' stories until her mentor, Mhairi McCallister, invites her to co-write a memoir about Scotland’s challenging Skye Trail. Eager for the opportunity, Brooke agrees to hike the trail, unaware that her companion will be Jack Sutherland, the man who deeply affected her writing career and her heart. Jack, having left his family’s tour business for photography, must honor his aunt Mhairi's wishes despite the emotional turmoil associated with Brooke. As they navigate the beautiful Scottish landscape, old feelings resurface, forcing them to confront a past filled with unspoken hurt.

I have to admit that as I started reading this book, I did not remember the first one and things felt familiar. Then I realized Jack is the second brother! Duh. I like how the author used alternating timelines to showcase the evolution of Brooke and Jack's relationship, blending sweet moments with heart-wrenching emotions. The forced proximity trope adds tension and excitement as they trek through breathtaking landscapes, making every interaction feel significant. Readers will appreciate the relatable themes of dreams, longing, and the impact of miscommunication on relationships. Kiley's vivid descriptions and authentic portrayal of natural light photography enrich the narrative, enhancing the overall reading experience. I think it gives a little bit of insight into ghostwriting, something I had not really thought about before. I love the HEA, although I was crying at the end. This book is sure to resonate with anyone who loves a heartfelt romance filled with hope and second chances (and a bit of sexy spice).  Thanks to #NetGalley and Harlequin for an ARC.  This book is out in a few days --> March 4, 2025!!!

First Responders: #2 The Anti-Social Season by Adele Buck book review

In this quirky holiday romantic comedy, Thea Martinelli, an overworked and traumatized firefighter, transitions to a social media coordinator role to escape the burnout and anxiety of her demanding career. Her new mentor is Simon Osman, a librarian who had a huge crush on Thea in high school.  She has to look him up in her yearbook to remember him.  As they navigate the chaos of the holiday season, their professional collaboration ignites unexpected feelings, leading them to face their emotions head-on. Yet, their budding romance is complicated by misunderstandings and personal insecurities, resulting in a cycle of relationship troubles. Ultimately, Thea and Simon must decide if they’re willing to sacrifice their hard-earned progress for love.
Readers will be drawn to this delightful tale for its relatable characters and engaging premise. Thea, a strong female lead, grapples with the real issue of burnout, making her journey authentic and compelling. Simon, the endearing librarian, adds a charming dynamic, creating a perfect blend of grumpy and sunshine tropes. I love that the author went with a male librarian and a female firefighter.  Simon feels that he does not do well in social situations.  Thea seems to be super outgoing, but she feels insecure about a number of things. The story captures the essence of holiday spirit while maintaining a spicy undertone, making it a perfect escape for readers. I read both books in this series and I really enjoy the characters and the writing.  However, I do think it's odd to write a Christmas romance and take some digs at religion.  There were also some parts where the author was very forcefully interjecting her political opinions (with pronouns and Drag Queen Storytime's) that didn't necessarily flow with the romance part of the story.  But overall, I love the characters, I love the library setting and I love the cover!

The dynamic between Teddy and Gus, filled with witty banter and sizzling tension, keeps readers engaged as they transition from rivals to unexpected lovers. With themes of personal growth and overcoming challenges, readers will find themselves invested in Teddy's journey of self-discovery and Gus's struggle to balance his responsibilities. The picturesque Wyoming ranch creates a cozy atmosphere, making it a perfect escape. This Much is True: The Liars’ Club #3 by Vivienne Lorret book review

This is the third installment of Lorret’s Liars’ Club series. This charming and humorous romance follows the journey of Althea Hartley, a thrill-seeking debutante who has lost her creative spark after two unsuccessful Seasons. As the youngest daughter in an eccentric family, Althea feels the weight of her playwriting legacy. She has lost her spark because of a narcissistic mentor/suitor. In a bid for inspiration, she begins to craft a story featuring a dashing highwayman, unaware that her fictional creation mirrors the reality of Jasper Trueblood, Viscount St. James, who lives a double life.

Jasper is determined to keep his true identity hidden from society, and Althea’s tales threaten to expose him. When fate draws them together, their chemistry ignites, but their paths are fraught with obstacles. Lorret skillfully weaves a narrative that balances humor with genuine emotional depth, showcasing Althea's journey from self-doubt to confidence. Jasper's complexity and charm as a protective, pining hero provide a delightful contrast. The role he has been forced to take because of his abusive uncle is heartbreaking and makes you want justice and revenge.

The delightful banter, quirky dialogue, and dramatic tension makes this book hard to put down. I love that Thea’s sisters made an appearance in this book. The quirky Hartley family adds an extra layer of charm, appealing to those who appreciate stories centered around strong familial bonds and the magic of theater. High five to the author for the spice level *fans self*. While Jasper is described as pretty large muscular man, I love Thea’s take charge attitude in life and in the bedroom. Yes!!! The cover is beautiful too and matches the characters descriptions. Once I started this book, I could not stop reading it. This book comes out July 1, 2025. Plenty of time to read the first two in the series. Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for the Advance Reader Copy.

He left his promising career as a cancer researcher to care for his ailing father, and he’s not looking for any distractions. As Margot navigates moose encounters and unexpected romantic tropes, she and Forrest discover a deep connection that forces them to confront their fears and the realities of their pasts. The story is a delightful blend of humor, emotional depth, and clever nods to classic romance tropes like meet-cutes and forced proximity. I thought this was a unique premise and the fun characters make it a great read filled with laughs, heartfelt moments, and a touch of whimsy that resonates long after the last page.

This book was one of my favorites that I read over the Christmas break. Mostly because of the playful exploration of beloved romance tropes, coupled with a fresh and self-aware narrative. Margot's journey of self-discovery and her relationship with Forrest encapsulate the charm and warmth that fans of the genre crave. Also, hello, hot doctor!!! This debut novel is a joyful celebration of romance that balances humor with heartfelt moments, making it a must-read for anyone who loves a good love story. It’s a great tribute to the romance genre and romance readers. I loved it! The book comes out April 1, 2025, so you have to rush out to get it. The Duchess Takes It All by Michelle McLean book review

Tamsin Palmer, the recently widowed Duchess of Clevesly, seemingly has it all: wealth, a title, a grand estate, and her beloved toddler son. Yet, her life is far from easy. Ostracized by high society for her commoner roots as a jeweler's daughter, she faces an even greater challenge with the arrival of Christian August, the Count of Rauchberg. Tasked with co-guardianship of her son, Christian is determined to impose order upon Tamsin's chaotic life. Their initial clashes quickly turn into a battle of wits as Tamsin employs mischievous pranks to reclaim her autonomy, driving Christian to distraction with her fiery spirit and undeniable charm. As their arguments intensify, so does their longing for each other, culminating in a passionate connection that threatens to unravel their carefully constructed lives. Both Tamsin and Christian grapple with societal expectations and personal sacrifices, navigating a complex web of love, duty, and the longing for freedom. With humor, heart, and a touch of steam, The Duchess Takes It All offers a delightful enemies-to-lovers tale set against a richly woven historical backdrop.

This enchanting story captivates with its blend of humor, passion, and engaging characters. Readers will appreciate Tamsin's spirited determination and Christian's honorable yet exasperated demeanor as they navigate their tumultuous relationship. The witty banter and playful pranks create a delightful tension that keeps the pages turning. Moreover, the exploration of societal constraints intertwined with a heartfelt romance makes for a compelling read. With themes of personal sacrifice and the quest for happiness, this novel is a must-read for romance enthusiasts seeking a fresh and entertaining historical love story. I really loved the German words sprinkled throughout the story (there is a glossary in the back). I was really mad at the historical accuracy of how a woman didn’t outright have custody of her children (AGH!) and the unfairness of it. The story was thought provoking on many different levels. I really liked it and recommend it to fans of historical romance.

In Earl Crush, author Alexandra Vasti delivers a delightful Regency romance filled with humor, intrigue, and unexpected love. The story follows Lydia Hope-Wallace, a socially anxious heiress who has secretly penned political pamphlets for three years. Engaged in correspondence with the reclusive Earl of Strathrannoch, she decides to travel to Scotland to propose a marriage of convenience after learning of his financial troubles. However, upon arrival, Lydia discovers that she has been writing to the earl’s younger brother, Davis, who has misrepresented himself. This revelation sets off a whirlwind of emotions as Lydia navigates her feelings for the genuine earl, Arthur Baird, who is initially taken aback by her sudden appearance. As they join forces to locate Davis, who is entangled in espionage, their chemistry ignites, leading to a passionate connection that neither expected. If you love romance, you will be captivated by Earl Crush for its engaging blend of witty dialogue, steamy chemistry, and a strong feminist heroine.
