To Heist and to Hold by Christina Britton book review

Heloise Marlowe, a determined widow and skilled blacksmith, infiltrates the notorious gaming club, Dionysus, to clear her sister-in-law Julie's name after a valuable heirloom necklace goes missing. Under the guise of seduction, she must navigate her feelings for the club’s owner, Ethan Sinclaire, who is grappling with rumors that threaten his establishment's reputation. As Heloise and Ethan’s lives intertwine, they must confront their pasts while uncovering the truth behind the theft and the suspicions surrounding the club. Their growing attraction complicates their mission, leading to a passionate romance that blooms amidst deception and danger.

Readers of historical romance will be enjoy by "To Heist and To Hold" for its unique perspective on the working class, diverging from the typical ballrooms and aristocratic settings. Heloise is a relatable and empowering heroine, defying societal norms as a blacksmith and a member of the Wimpole Street Widows Society. The novel masterfully combines mystery, romance, and emotional depth, showcasing the characters' struggles with guilt and trust amidst a backdrop of intrigue. The chemistry between Heloise and Ethan adds a layer of tension and excitement, while the supporting characters add a lot to the story. With its blend of steamy moments, witty banter, and genuine connection, this book is a must add to your TBR pile.  I really enjoyed it and I particularly loved all the name (of characters) choices in this story.

This book is out today!  Thanks to @Forever and #NetGalley for an ARC.

Dream Harbor #4: The Strawberry Patch Pancake House by Laurie Gilmore book review

This is book #4 in the Dream Harbor series and I have to say that I love coming back to a familiar world with both old and new characters. In this book, Archer, a world-renowned chef and single father, relocates to provide a stable home for his young daughter, Olive, after her mother's untimely passing. Faced with the challenge of running a pancake restaurant and winning over the locals, Archer struggles to balance his new life while gaining custody of Olive, who is hesitant to connect with him. Enter Iris, a free-spirited woman who has never held a job for long and is searching for a fresh start. When offered the opportunity to be Olive's nanny, she is hesitant but ultimately decides to take the plunge. The job has good pay and a place to live. As she navigates her new role, she finds herself drawn to Archer, who surprises her with his cooking skills and brooding charm. Their evolving relationship is filled with sexual tension as they grapple with their pasts and the challenges of parenting. With a delightful blend of humor, romance, and community spirit, this story captures the essence of finding love and family when least expected, leading to a heartwarming happily-ever-after that readers will cherish.

I love this book because of  its charming small-town setting and lovable characters. The single dad and nanny trope adds a layer of sweetness and tension as Archer's protective instincts clash with Iris’s desire for independence. Readers will enjoy the forced proximity that heightens their chemistry, making each interaction feel electric. The slow-burn romance allows for emotional depth, as both characters confront their pasts and learn to trust one another. The narrative is sprinkled with humor and heartwarming moments, making it a perfect escape for those seeking lighthearted yet meaningful stories. With well-developed secondary characters that enrich the plot, readers will feel immersed in the close-knit community of Dream Harbor. If you have read the other books in this series, you know what to expect.  If you are just jumping in, you will love the HEA, the fun and quirky characters and sexy scenes.

Big Shots #4: Pitcher Perfect by Tessa Bailey book review

NHL rookie Robbie Corrigan is a charming playboy who seems to have it all—stardom, a best friend as a roommate, and the adoration of Boston’s women. However, everything changes when he meets Skylar Paige, a fiercely independent Division 1 softball pitcher who is immune to his charms. She puts Robbie in his place, seconds after they meet.  She is not impressed by his conquests and lets him know. However, their paths will soon cross because Skylar harbors a long-time crush on her brother’s best friend.  Her best friend backs out of a an event and Skylar decides she needs a fake boyfriend for this family wilderness competition. Robbie steps in to help make her crush jealous. As they navigate through the challenges of their faux relationship, trust builds between them, leading to unexpected chemistry. Their banter and growing closeness force them to confront their feelings, and soon, what started as a pretense begins to feel all too real.

I didn't realize this was book 4 in this series, but it was super easy to jump into and I did not feel like I was missing out on a back story.  I loved how Skylar was hot, sporty and a little awkward.  Robbie did not give the best first impression, but I love how his character was developed throughout the story. Parts were laugh out loud funny, there was a little tension and some pretty hot sex! The fake dating trope is great, with Robbie's flirty nature contrasting perfectly with Skylar's strong-willed persona. Robbie's growth from a cocky player to a caring partner adds layers to his character. Skylar’s journey of self-discovery and vulnerability resonates with many, showcasing a strong female lead who doesn’t shy away from her ambitions. With a backdrop of sports and family competition, this story promises a lighthearted yet heartfelt read that blends sizzling romance with character development, ensuring readers are left swooning for more. It was an enjoyable read.  Once I started I could not put it down.  Some reviews are pretty harsh on the story and the author, but this is a great sports romance that is well written with a HEA.  This book was just released on September 9, 2025 and it should definitely be added to your reading list.

Let's Give 'Em Pumpkin to Talk About by Isabelle Popp book review

Textile artist, Sadie Fox reluctantly returns to her small hometown of Pea Blossom, Indiana, to care for her father's beloved pumpkin patch during the summer. Her mission is simple: grow a giant pumpkin to win back her father's respect. However, disaster strikes when a horde of wild hogs ravages the entire patch. Just when things seem hopeless, Josh Thatcher, her father's charming neighbor and a former tech millionaire turned gourd enthusiast, offers his help. The story unfolds with the classic grumpy-sunshine dynamic, where Sadie embodies the grump, and Josh is the sunny, supportive figure. As they work together to rebuild the pumpkin patch, unexpected feelings begin to blossom, leading to a stormy kiss that hints at something deeper. This unexpected rom-com captures the essence of small-town life, the warmth of autumn, and the complexities of relationships, all while exploring themes of self-discovery and healing.

I think romance readers will appreciate the unique role reversal, with Sadie as the grumpy lead and Josh as the affable sunshine, that adds a refreshing twist to the classic opposites-attract trope. The cozy autumn setting enhances the romantic vibes, making it perfect for curling up with a blanket and a warm drink. Deeper conversations about mental health provide emotional depth, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a more profound level. Stu, Sadie's father, is a pivotal character who adds depth to the narrative. His estrangement from Sadie showcases the emotional distance that can develop between loved ones, especially when burdens of expectations weigh heavy. I like how he ultimately becomes a symbol of reconciliation, illustrating that it’s never too late to mend broken bonds and appreciate the love that exists within a family.  There is still some spice!  Once Sadie and Josh get together...*fans self*.  This book was just released in late August, so it's just in time for pumpkin-spice season!

Catching Lady Theo by Ella Quinn book review

In "Catching Lady Theo," the second installment of Ella Quinn's "Here Comes the Grooms" series, Leo, Duke of Chandos, finds himself unexpectedly enchanted by Lady Theo Vivers, his best friend’s sister. As Theo makes her debut in London society, Leo is determined to win her heart, despite her initial view of him as merely a friend or even a brother. While Theo recognizes Leo's charm, she believes he is unsuitable for marriage due to his bachelor lifestyle and vow to marry later in life. When a misunderstanding leads Leo to proclaim their betrothal, Theo dismisses it as an act of friendship, planning to extricate them from the situation. However, as they navigate social events together, Theo begins to see a side of Leo that is both devoted and tempting. Amidst romantic rivals and misunderstandings, the two explore their feelings, leading to a delightful journey of self-discovery and the complexities of love.

I like this book for its humor, warmth, and emotional depth. Ella Quinn weaves a tale of friends-to-lovers that showcases the complexities of relationships within the Regency era. The dynamic between Leo and Theo is both sweet and engaging, as they navigate societal expectations and personal growth. Leo made a lot of changes in his life to get Theo to notice him.  It took a while for her to recognize these changes and was kind of fun to watch from the reader point of view. The supportive Worthington family adds layers of love and humor, making the story feel rich and relatable. Additionally, the exploration of misunderstandings and romantic tensions keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eager to see how the characters will resolve their conflicts. With a perfect combination of wit, heartfelt moments, and engaging characters, this book promises to be a delightful escape for fans of historical romance.  Thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.  It will officially be out on November 25, 2025.  If you love historical romance, put this one on your TBR pile.

Immortal by Morning: An Argeneau Novel #37 by Lynsay Sands book review

In the latest installment of Lynsay Sands's Argeneau vampire series, immortal rogue enforcer and detective Crispinus Delacort finds his routine disrupted when human bones are discovered in a residential garden. The shocking find is made by Abril Newman, who is house-sitting for her boss. Amidst the chaos, Abril grapples with her unexpected attraction to Crispin, complicating the investigation. As Crispin delves deeper, he realizes a rogue is involved, making the case far more complex. Distracted by his feelings for Abril, he must navigate both the investigation and their budding romance. With humor, chemistry, and a top-notch immortal team for support, Crispin and Abril work against the clock to solve the mystery before morning.

I find "Immortal by Morning" irresistible due to its blend of humor, suspense, and steamy romance. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments, especially when Lucien makes an appearance. The chemistry between Crispin and Abril is palpable, as they face both external threats and their undeniable attraction. I mean, who doesn't want a 3000 year old immortal man??? The author always emphasizes genuine connection, allowing readers to savor their budding relationship without unnecessary drama. Lynsay Sands’s masterful world-building introduces a captivating backdrop of immortality and vampire lore, while familiar characters from previous books create a sense of community. I look forward to coming back to this immortal world with every new book release. I'm just super impressed that Sands can keep coming up with unique human reactions to being told about the immortals.  There are very few series that can keep going for this long.  I love every single one of them! This book promises not only a thrilling mystery but also a sexy love story, making it a delightful read for fans of the genre.  Anytime someone asks me for a vampire romance, this is one of my go-to series.  The cover art is *mwah* (chef's kiss).  Thanks to the author for continuing to write these books and thanks to the publisher for continuing to publish them :)

The Marriage Method by Mimi Matthews book review

In The Marriage Method, set in Victorian London, Penelope “Nell” Trewlove, a deputy headmistress at the Benevolent Academy for the Betterment of Young Ladies, is tasked with silencing inquisitive newspaper editor Miles Quincy. The Academy seeks to protect its mission of advancing women while thwarting men in power who threaten their cause. However, when Nell attempts to charm Miles into compliance, their encounter takes an unexpected turn involving a mischievous cat and a scandalous situation that leads to a hasty marriage. As they navigate their newfound partnership, Nell and Miles delve into a mystery involving a missing journalist and the darker underbelly of society. Their chemistry grows amidst investigations and societal constraints, revealing both their vulnerabilities and strengths. With humor, heart, and intrigue, the story unfolds, showcasing a unique blend of romance and a gripping mystery.

I love this book for its delightful marriage of convenience trope, where Nell and Miles' forced union blossoms into a heartfelt partnership. The witty banter and palpable chemistry between the leads create an engaging dynamic that keeps readers invested. Nell defies societal norms as a strong, intelligent woman, while Miles proves to be a protective and tender hero. The blend of romance with a compelling mystery adds depth, ensuring that the story is not just about love but also about personal growth and societal challenges. With charming characters and unexpected twists, this book delivers an irresistible read for anyone who enjoys historical romance laced with adventure and heart.  The cover on this book is beautiful!  It totally sucked me in.  The spice level is very low, but the falling in love is soooooo romantic.  I really enjoyed this book.  Thanks to the Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.  It is scheduled to be published November 25, 2025.  It'll be worth the wait!

Soul Searching by Lyla Sage book review

Collins Cartwright reluctantly returns to her hometown of Sweetwater Peak, Wyoming, under the pretense of helping her family's antique shop. In reality, she is broke and out of work, hiding her struggles from her supportive family. Haunted by silence from the ghosts she once spoke to, Collins finds herself in need of a fresh start. She rents a room above an upholstery shop owned by Brady Cooper, who is also seeking a new beginning. Their budding romance is complicated by the presence of more ghosts and personal challenges. As they grow closer, the barriers between their lives blur, leading both to wonder if their connection could become something lasting.

This book is a fun blend of romance and paranormal elements that captivated me from the start. Lyla Sage’s ability to create an atmospheric setting in Sweetwater Peak, combined with relatable characters, made the story immersive. The gentle romance between Collins and Brady felt genuine, enhanced by their shared struggles and the unique twist of ghostly interactions. The incorporation of supernatural elements added depth without overshadowing the emotional growth of the characters. Readers who appreciate heartfelt connections and a touch of the paranormal will find this book appealing. The slow-burn romance, combined with the charming small-town vibe, creates a warm and engaging reading experience.  There are connections to the author's previous books (which I LOVE).  I always notice how the author writes consent in her spicy scenes.  This was just an overall fun read.  I enjoyed it!  Thanks to Random House and NetGalley for a ARC of this book.  It will be published September 20, 2025.  A definite add to your TBR pile.

The Reluctant Flirt by Jennifer Probst book review

In The Reluctant Flirt, Sierra Lourde seeks solace in New York City after discovering her husband's affair. A carefree one-night stand with a charming stranger offers her a brief escape, but she leaves before dawn, determined to move on. Fast forward to her new life as the owner of Flirt, a trendy boutique in the Outer Banks. Just when she thinks life is good, Kane Masterson, the man she left behind, reenters her life as the developer threatening to demolish her shop for a new project. Their undeniable chemistry ignites old feelings, leading to a spirited battle of wills. With sharp dialogue, emotional depth, and a picturesque coastal setting, Sierra and Kane navigate heartbreak and second chances, making for a captivating read.

This book has a great balance of sizzling chemistry and heartfelt moments. The dynamic between Sierra and Kane is rich with tension and layered emotions, making their journey compelling. Probst’s signature witty banter and engaging side characters add depth to the story, while the slow-burn romance keeps readers invested. The intimate moments are described with a focus on connection and vulnerability, allowing readers to feel the tension and passion that build throughout the story. I love the Outer Banks setting.  It's the first time I have read a romance series set the in Outer Banks.  It makes for a perfect beach read or just a weekend getaway.  I am a big fan of this author's books and this one did not disappoint.  There are two books in this series and while I like reading them in order, this can be a standalone read.

A Most Unlikely Lady by Darcy McGuire book review

In "A Most Unlikely Lady," the latest installment in Darcy McGuire's captivating Queen Victoria's Deadly Damsels series, Miss Ivy Cavendale takes on the role of headmistress at an orphanage, seeking anonymity and safety. However, her world turns upside down when an intruder threatens her and her charges, forcing her to confront her fears and defend herself. Enter Commissioner Edward Worthington, a secret spy for Queen Victoria, who becomes intrigued by Ivy's hidden strength. As they work together to uncover the nefarious activities of the Devil's Sons, both Ivy and Edward must confront their past traumas and vulnerabilities. Their chemistry ignites amidst danger, leading them on a journey of self-discovery and love. This fourth book can be enjoyed as a standalone, offering a mix of romance, mystery, and empowerment.
Readers of historical romance will be drawn to "A Most Unlikely Lady" for its rich character development and the captivating backdrop of Regency-era London. Ivy’s struggle for independence and strength in a male-dominated society resonates with themes of empowerment. The dynamic between Ivy and Edward is both steamy and heartfelt, filled with witty banter and genuine moments of connection. McGuire masterfully blends romance with danger, creating an engaging narrative that keeps readers invested in the characters’ journeys. The exploration of societal norms, along with the thrilling mystery of the Devil's Sons, makes this book a must-read.  I've really been enjoying this series.  It's fun, it's spicy and I like the element of mystery.  I also enjoy the theme of friendship and loyalty.  The story has parts that show the importance of solidarity and support among women in challenging circumstances.

Mountain Men Matchmaker: #2 Seven Year Itch by Amy Daws book review

Calder Fletcher, portrayed as the "black sheep" of the family, feels he is seen as the underachiever despite his hidden talents. He is a skilled furniture maker, but his emotional baggage and reluctance to step into the spotlight keep him from pursuing success in this passion. Having gone through a tough breakup, he has built walls around himself, leading to a brooding demeanor. He finds himself unexpectedly sharing a tropical wedding vacation with Dakota.  (this may have been a set up by the matchmaker) Neither one wanted to be there alone, but they did it for their friends and family.  Dakota is a recently divorced woman who has struggled with self-esteem issues stemming from her previous relationship. Her ex-husband never appreciated her, leading to a crisis of confidence that she is determined to overcome. Sharp-tongued and bold, Dakota has a fiery personality that masks her insecurities. Her history with Calder is marked by seven years of animosity, primarily stemming from their initial interactions during her home remodel, where they clashed frequently. As the story unfolds, Dakota’s journey of self-discovery takes center stage, allowing her to reclaim her identity and find strength in vulnerability.   As they agree to a "enemies with benefits" arrangement to help Dakota regain her confidence post-divorce, they navigate the complexities of their relationship, revealing layers of vulnerability and attraction. The tension between them escalates, transforming their dynamic into something deeper than they ever anticipated, leading to a realization that love can emerge from the most unexpected places.

I love the forced proximity in this story as it heightens the tension, while the meddling family dynamics add layers of comedic chaos. There are some kinks and a sex club, so you know they story will be spicy.  We revisit characters from the previous book, so I enjoyed peeking in on their lives.  I think because there is some "sex coaching" going on, the reader can see how the intimacy develops throughout their conversations. The setting is great.  Nothing like Fletcher Mountain, with sexy Fletcher men living on it.  This book will be out in SIX days! (June 17, 2025)  Put it in your TBR pile.

Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Digging Dr Jones by Olivia Jackson book review

Digging Dr. Jones by Olivia Jackson is a captivating romcom adventure that follows Adriana Jones, a down-on-her-luck business owner vacationing in Costa Rica with her brother, William. When a mysterious bracelet is mistakenly delivered to her, Adriana unknowingly becomes entangled in a treasure hunt alongside the handsome archaeologist, Dr. Andrew Jones, who desperately needs the bracelet to find ancient treasure in the Colombian jungle. As they trek through perilous landscapes and face unexpected challenges, the chemistry between Adriana and Andrew ignites amid their sharp banter and contrasting personalities. Their journey transforms from a simple vacation into a thrilling quest filled with danger, mystery, and romance.

I liked  Digging Dr Jones for its fun blend of adventure and heart-pounding chemistry. It has an Indiana Jones kind of vibe. The dynamic between Adriana and Andrew is both entertaining and relatable, with their witty exchanges and slow-burn romance keeping readers hooked. The forced proximity trope heightens their connection as they navigate thrilling escapades, making for a delightful reading experience. The unique setting and treasure-hunting theme add depth, while the lighthearted humor ensures it’s a fun escape. I love the relationship between Adriana and her brother, William.  I enjoyed her backstory in that she worked hard to get to where she is today. I think some of the reviews of this book are particularly harsh about the insta-love and things that happen on their adventure.  It's a fun fiction, adventure rom-com (like Indiana Jones) and a hot treasure hunter who finds the hot chick on vacation.  Adriana has been recently dumped and duped by a long term boyfriend, so she got some well deserved fun and sexy times in her life.  My imagination is happy to spend some time with a smart, British archeologist who knows how to please women.  Yum!

Beneath the Wild Sky: #2 Crossing Paths by Katie Ruggle book review

Norah Pax is the tech-savvy member of her family's Rocky Mountain bounty-hunting business, preferring to track skips from behind her laptop rather than engage in physical confrontations like her adrenaline-seeking sisters. Recognizing her need for self-defense skills, she musters the courage to seek help from Dashiell Porter, a gruff MMA expert and gym owner. While Dash intimidates most, his unexpected gentleness makes Norah feel secure, and their training sessions quickly spark a romantic connection. He closed his gym during their sessions because she was so self-conscious in front of others. However, danger looms as criminals target the Pax sisters, threatening their safety. Norah must harness the skills Dash teaches her to protect herself and her family. With Dash determined to keep her safe, the two navigate their budding romance amid chaos. The narrative showcases the strong bond among the Pax sisters, filled with humor, love, and action, making it an engaging read. This installment in Katie Ruggle's series can stand alone, yet it seamlessly continues the journey of the Pax sisters as they confront both personal and external challenges.

Readers will be drawn to Norah and Dash's slow-burning relationship, marked by genuine trust and mutual growth. Norah's relatable social anxiety and determination to step outside her comfort zone make her an endearing protagonist. Dash’s protective nature and hidden softness create a compelling dynamic, allowing readers to root for their love story. The lively banter among the Pax sisters adds a layer of warmth and humor, enriching the narrative. With thrilling action sequences, danger, suspense and a strong focus on personal empowerment, this book offers a perfect blend of romance and adventure. I really enjoyed this book and am a big fan of the author :)

Manic Pixie Dream Earl by Jenny Holiday book review

In Jenny Holiday's, "Manic Pixie Dream Earl," we follow three Regency-era Earls—Effie, Simon, and Archie—on their annual men-only holiday filled with laughter, friendship, adventure and unexpected twists. Effie, the flamboyant Viscount Featherfinch, is a poet who writes under a pseudonym. He has a correspondence with Julianna, the editor of the magazine that publishes his work.  Julianna assumed that Effie (Edward) is a woman. They have been writing letters and have become quite close. When Julianna decides to crash Effie's trip to Brighton, she discovers his true identity, leading to a surprising connection that transcends their initial friendship. As they navigate their feelings, both characters confront their pasts—Effie's struggles with a traumatic childhood and Julianna's issues with societal expectations. Their journey explores the complexities of love, friendship, and identity, culminating in a heartwarming tale of acceptance and growth.

This book combines humor, emotional depth, and queer representation, appealing to romance readers seeking something unexpected and relatable. With a dual POV that allows insight into both Effie's and Julianna's thoughts, readers experience their evolving relationship in a nuanced way. The portrayal of diverse identities—Effie as demisexual and Julianna as bisexual—adds to the the narrative. Additionally, the strong themes of friendship and support among the Earls resonate deeply, highlighting the importance of chosen family. Readers will appreciate Holiday's clever twists on classic tropes, including mistaken identity and reverse age gaps, all set against a vibrant historical backdrop. I like how they break all sorts of conventions in class, swimming, staying in the same house and working.  There is definitely an HEA for the couple and their found family.  I was hoping for a bit more from the children side of things, but I guess that is what makes this book unique to the historical romance genre.  A fun read, a fun cover and definitely some entertaining characters.

Her Majesty's Rebels #3: Road Trip with a Rogue by Kate Bateman book review

"Road Trip With a Rogue" is the third book in Kate Bateman's "Her Majesty's Rebels" series. While it features returning characters and references past events, it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Fans of the series will appreciate the familiar dynamics and development of beloved characters in this fun historical  romance. Daisy Hamilton, a duke's daughter and investigator for King & Co., is tasked with stopping heiress Violetta Brand from eloping. Her plans go awry when she mistakenly holds up the carriage of Lucien Vaughan, the Duke of Cranford and the man who broke her heart five years ago. Vaughan decides to go with Daisy on her journey through Scotland to track down the runaway couple. Daisy, determined to keep her past feelings for Lucien at bay, faces challenges that threaten her reputation, leading Lucien to make a scandalous claim to protect her. Their shared experiences reveal deep-seated emotions, and as danger lurks, they confront their feelings amidst witty banter and undeniable chemistry. This road trip leads them to unexpected revelations and a journey toward love, making it a compelling tale of second chances.

This book is a delightful blend of humor, tension, spice and heartfelt moments. Daisy and Lucien’s dynamic is electric, filled with sharp banter and simmering chemistry that keeps readers on their toes. The setting of a road trip adds an adventurous flair, allowing for intimate encounters and character development against a backdrop of charming inns and unexpected situations. I love Daisy's personality.  She can handle her weapons and protect herself.  Bateman’s knack for crafting relatable, multi-dimensional characters makes Daisy and Lucien easy to root for, while the engaging plot ensures a fast-paced, enjoyable reading experience that leaves readers eager for more.  This was such a fun read!  This book should be added to your pre-release orders.  As a side note, the cover is beautiful and sexy.  It's a good representation of Daisy and Lucien.

This book will be out July 29, 2025.  Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC.

Bluestocking Booksellers #2: My Best Friend's Earl by Bethany Bennett book review

Constance Martin, a bold bookseller, is determined to avoid a mundane life. When her aristocratic friend Althea seeks help to break her engagement to Oliver Vincent, the Earl of Southwyn, Constance sees an opportunity for excitement. Althea, bound by an agreement made by their fathers, wants nothing to do with marrying Oliver, who views the marriage as a business arrangement and a duty. As Constance and Althea devise humorous schemes to thwart the engagement, Constance finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Oliver, a man who embodies duty and logic. Despite her scatterbrained nature and tendency to make lists just to remember daily tasks, Constance's vivacity disrupts Oliver's orderly life, forcing him to confront his growing feelings for her. As their relationship deepens, both must navigate their differing views of love and commitment, leading to a delightful blend of humor, chaos, and heartwarming moments.

This book is a delightful escape filled with humor, charm, and relatable characters. Readers will appreciate the dynamic between Constance and Oliver, whose contrasting personalities create a captivating tension. Constance’s vibrant spirit and Oliver’s honorable intentions make for a compelling romance, showcasing the beauty of opposites attracting. The list of ways to annoy Oliver is hilarious. The author weaves themes of friendship, loyalty, and self-discovery, appealing to readers who enjoy depth in romantic relationships. Fans of historical romance will find this book an enjoyable addition to their collection, promising both laughter and heartfelt moments.  I do think it helps to read the first book in the series as there is a larger cast of characters.  There are cousins and friends all associated with the book shop.  I would love to see a picture of the inspiration for the waist coats that Constance and Althea had made for Oliver to disrupt his ordered rotation of outfits for the week!!!  Those scenes were pretty amusing.  The spice level of "My Best Friend’s Earl" is mild to moderate. While the story contains romantic tension and chemistry between the characters, it primarily focuses on their emotional connection and comedic elements rather than explicit scenes.  Add this to your TBR pile!

Thanks to Forever publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.  Pub date is set for August 12, 2025.

Miss Prentice's Protegees #2: Look Before You Leap by Virginia Heath book review

In Look Before You Leap, the second book in Miss Prentice's Protegees series, Lord Guy Harrowby, Viscount Wennington, is reluctantly thrust into the spotlight as his thirtieth birthday approaches. After a humiliating romantic experience nearly a decade ago, he has retreated into a life of solitude and work. Despite his efforts to avoid society, his meddlesome mother orchestrates a house party filled with debutantes eager to win his affections. Enter Lottie Travers, a spirited lady’s companion with a penchant for adventure and independence. Struggling to fit into the constraints of polite society, Lottie’s wild nature contrasts sharply with Guy's brooding demeanor. As the two spar and navigate the chaos of the house party, an undeniable chemistry develops. However, Lottie's secrets and Guy's past fears of love create obstacles that they must confront together. This charming tale expertly balances humor and heart, leading to a satisfying slow-burn romance that challenges both characters to grow.

Romance readers will love the grumpy-sunshine dynamic between Lottie and Guy. Their witty banter keeps the narrative lively. Lottie's vibrant spirit and determination to support her family make her a relatable heroine, while Guy's vulnerability adds complexity to his character. The chaos of the house party serves as a perfect backdrop for romantic entanglements, providing ample opportunities for comedic moments and heartfelt revelations. I love that Lottie's family was included.  Her brothers seem great (and perhaps need their own story).  I like that the author made Lottie a very accomplished horsewoman.  Readers will start to see from the beginning of the book that Lottie's place is in horse training and  not being a companion.  Lottie is made for the outdoors.  A rare thing for women to aspire to in this time period.  Guy's love of horses is the perfect complement to round out this fun couple.  The twist at the ending was unexpected, so it was a bit of extra fun!  A great addition to your TBR pile.  Definitely recommended.

Publication date is June 25, 2025.  Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

This story is a captivating enemies-to-lovers historical romance set in the quirky village of Chudleigh Bottoms. As they navigate family challenges and village secrets, their relationship becomes both tumultuous and intensely sensual. Readers will be drawn to A Wallflower’s Guide to Viscounts and Vice for its engaging blend of historical romance, mystery, and witty dialogue. The chemistry between Lucy and Viscount Gilford is palpable, offering a delightful enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Collins excels at crafting strong, relatable female characters, making Lucy’s journey both empowering and entertaining. With unexpected twists and a lighthearted tone, the novel provides a perfect escape into a world where love conquers all, ensuring readers are left eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. The charming backdrop of the 1800s, combined with a thrilling plot, also celebrates female friendships and resilience. The book focuses more on romantic tension and emotional connection rather than explicit scenes.  It's a great weekend read if you are looking for a historical romance.  I also love supporting librarians turned authors!

The Scandal of the Season by Michelle Kenney book review

The Scandal of the Season by Michelle Kenney is a Regency romance that follows Sophie Fairfax, a determined young woman who aspires to marry for love rather than status. Sophie enters a wager with Lord Rotherby, a notorious rake who has no intentions of marriage. This bet sets off a series of unexpected events as Sophie navigates societal expectations and her growing feelings for Lord Rotherby. The story is filled with witty banter, emotional turmoil, and surprising twists, including the arrival of Aurelia, who complicates matters further. The narrative unfolds primarily from Sophie’s perspective, with glimpses into Lord Rotherby’s thoughts, revealing his secret affair with a married woman and his personal code regarding relationships. As Sophie attempts to salvage her reputation amid scandal and misunderstandings, the backdrop shifts to France, adding a French flair to the story. Readers will enjoy the humor, charm, and the ultimate question of whether Sophie can find love amidst the chaos.

Readers will enjoy the characters and the delightful tension between Sophie and Lord Rotherby. The witty dialogue and humorous situations create a lighthearted atmosphere, making it a fun read. The evolving relationship between the main characters offers a classic enemies-to-lovers trope that many readers adore. The addition of quirky side characters, like the spirited Lu-Lu and the scheming Aurelia, adds depth and intrigue to the plot. Set against the lush backdrop of Regency society, readers will relish the vivid descriptions and period details. This is a slow burn, closed door romance.  While the focus is on Sophie and Rotherby, it's more about the chase and the unwinding of the complications that make this a fun read. There is an unexpected twist at the end that was fun.  A perfect choice for historical fiction fans that are not into the more explicit historical romance.  I enjoyed it!

Goode's Guide to Misconduct #3: The Lady Makes Her Mark by Susanna Craig book review

In a vibrant world of satire and romance, Constantia Cooper, known as "Miss C.," is a talented cartoonist for Mrs. Goode’s Magazine for Misses, using her wit to critique society. However, her anonymity is crucial as she's drawn the ire of many powerful figures, including Alistair Haythorne, the Earl of Ryland, who often finds himself the subject of her biting humor. When a scandal at the magazine puts her in danger, Constantia flees, only to be struck by a carriage right outside Alistair's home. Rescued by the very man she has lampooned, she pretends to have amnesia to evade her pursuers. Alistair, burdened by the financial strain of his crumbling estate and the pressure to marry a wealthy heiress, takes Constantia in under the guise of needing her to teach his sisters art. As they spend time together, their assumptions about one another begin to shift, revealing unexpected layers of personality and vulnerability. Amid their developing romance, threats against Constantia's life loom, complicating their budding relationship. With humor, tension, and the allure of secrets, this novel explores how love can thrive even in the face of danger and societal expectations.

Romance readers will love the delightful chemistry between Constantia and Alistair, two characters with engaging secrets and sharp wit. The slow-burn romance is filled with tension and misunderstandings, making for a captivating read as their relationship evolves. The addition of Alistair's sisters adds a playful dynamic, enhancing the narrative with humorous moments and heartfelt connections. The book's setting in a historical era infuses a sense of adventure and intrigue, while Constantia's cleverness as a cartoonist provides a refreshing twist on traditional romantic tropes. Readers will be surprised by the fun plot twist, as well as the satisfying fairy-tale ending that leaves you craving more stories from this charming world. All in all, a fun read that is easy to get lost in.  I've read and reviewed some of this authors other books and this one is just as enjoyable. This particular series has been a lot of fun.  Here is the review for book #2.   Book #3 is out May 27, 2025.  Thanks for Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Mountain Men Matchmaker #1: Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws book review

In "Nine Month Contract" by Amy Daws, Wyatt, a grumpy mountain man, finds himself in need of a surrogate and turns to an unconventional wanted ad, thanks to his meddling brothers. Enter Trista, a spirited woman with dreams of opening an animal rescue facility. Their initial arrangement is purely business, but as their chemistry ignites during an awkward home insemination attempt, Wyatt realizes he wants more than just a surrogate—he wants Trista to be his partner. The story explores their journey through family dynamics, self-discovery, and the challenges of becoming parents together. With a blend of humor, tension, and heartfelt moments, the book captures the essence of opposites attracting in a small-town setting.

This book has a charming blend of grumpy sunshine dynamics and quirky family interactions. Wyatt's rugged persona, coupled with Trista's vibrant spirit, creates a compelling push-and-pull that will keep readers invested in their relationship. The warm and humorous family dynamics add depth, making the story relatable and engaging.  Wyatt's niece, Everly, really added a lot to the story as a secondary character. There are themes of body positivity and the exploration of personal insecurities, offering a refreshing take in contemporary romance. With its unique premise of surrogacy intertwined with romance, this book offers a delightful escape for fans of small-town love stories.  This was my first book that I read by Amy Daws and I loved it!  It was quite spicy, exploring the edges of various kinks.  A lot of the reviews went pretty hard at legal and ethical issues of surrogacy, but I think if you suspend reality and just go along with the fictional ride --it did not seem too problematic for me.  It might have started out as a business transaction, but ended in love (a lot like a lot of historical romances).  I thought this book was super hot and spicy.   I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Secret Society of Governess Spies #2: Never Gamble Your Heart by Lindsay Lovise book review

"Never Gamble Your Heart" is the second installment in the "Secret Society of Governess Spies" series, set in 1838 England. The story follows Francis (Frankie) Turner, a math genius who becomes the governess for Jasper Jones' fifteen-year-old niece, Cecelia. When Frankie's impulsive younger sister goes missing, she infiltrates Jasper's gambling den to uncover a disturbing pattern: wealthy young women are being married off to impoverished men, often against their will, due to societal pressures. As Frankie navigates the challenges of her new role and Jasper's intriguing but complicated personality, she teaches Cecelia how to count cards and uncovers the truth behind the sinister dowry schemes. With an engaging mix of romance and mystery, Frankie and Jasper's relationship evolves amidst schemes and tension, leading them both to unexpected realizations about love and trust.

I love the spy/mystery/secrets in this series! The chemistry between Frankie and Jasper is hot, marked by witty banter and a slow-burn romance that keeps readers engaged. Frankie’s brilliance in mathematics adds a unique twist to the traditional governess trope, while Cecelia’s spirited nature provides comic relief and charm. The interplay of danger and intrigue surrounding the dowry scheme creates high stakes that enhance the romantic tension. With clever plotting and relatable themes of self-discovery and empowerment, this novel offers an entertaining escape into a world of love, mystery, and the fight against societal norms.  I really enjoyed this story and I really love the beautiful cover.  I found myself rooting for Frankie and Jasper to fall in love and be successful, despite what life had thrown at them.  There was some redemption going on in here that added a surprising twist.  All in all, I highly recommend this book.

These Summer Storms by Sarah MacLean book review

In "These Summer Storms," Sarah MacLean ventures into contemporary fiction, delivering a gripping tale of family, loss, and inheritance. Alice Storm, estranged from her wealthy family, returns to their Rhode Island island estate after the death of her father, Franklin Storm, a tech mogul with a narcissistic streak. Each must navigate personal conflicts and family dynamics while completing tasks that reveal deep-seated issues and secrets. Among them is Jack Dean, Franklin's brooding right-hand man, whose chemistry with Alice adds a romantic twist to the story. As Alice grapples with her family's legacy and her own identity, she discovers what truly matters beyond wealth and status. The narrative is rich with character development, emotional depth, and unexpected twists, making it an engaging read that explores the complexities of family relationships.

Their chemistry is palpable, igniting sparks that keep readers invested in their evolving relationship. While the novel centers on family dynamics, MacLean skillfully weaves in moments of intimacy and longing, offering a satisfying balance of drama and romance. There is so much drama in this book!!!  Wow. I really enjoyed the New England beach/island setting.  The emotional stakes elevate the connection between the protagonists, making readers root for their love amidst the chaos of family secrets (so many secrets) and challenges. The witty banter and steamy encounters provide an enjoyable escape, ensuring that even those who are primarily fans of romance will find a lot to love in this captivating contemporary fiction debut.

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh book review

In Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case by Violet Marsh, we follow Georgina Harrington, an intelligent and determined archaeologist who struggles to gain recognition in a male-dominated field during this historical time period. Forced to present her findings under her cousin Percy's name, Georgina is thrust into turmoil when Percy mysteriously disappears with her latest discovery. Concerned for his safety, she enlists the help of Alexander Lovett, Percy's charming yet infuriating best friend. As they embark on a quest to find Percy, they navigate societal pressures, battle personal demons, and confront the expectations placed upon them by their families. Set against the backdrop of the 1750s, the story blends romance, humor, and intrigue, as Georgina and Alexander discover their undeniable chemistry while dealing with the complexities of their lives and the threat looming over the monarchy.

I loved the funny parts of this book!  The roster/chicken fad of the ton is hilarious.  Georgina and Alexander's chemistry is palpable as they navigate their own insecurities and family pressures, making their relationship feel genuine and relatable. The witty banter and engaging dialogue add depth to their interactions, inviting readers to root for their romance. Furthermore, the historical setting offers a fresh perspective on gender roles and societal expectations, making it not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. With a mix of endearing characters, unexpected twists, and a charming subplot involving a supportive found family, this book promises to satisfy any reader's craving for a captivating romantic adventure.  I really enjoyed the tight knit group of supportive friends. I think the author portrayed how a disability might have been perceived at the time (interesting to think about). The cover was a good reflection of parts of the story.  This book is the second book in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone.  It's got some spicy scenes, but I think the mystery is the major point.  There is some violence and fighting that will get your adrenaline pumping.  I really liked it and it's a perfect weekend read when you are in the mood for a good historical romance.

The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy book review

The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy is a dramatic romance that follows Chrissy Parks and Deacon Youngblood, a couple who unexpectedly win a cruise ticket while performing a dance in outrageous costumes. As they prepare for their role-playing-themed cruise, Deacon surprises Chrissy with a marriage proposal. However, Chrissy, still grappling with her past divorce, panics and declines, leading to a breakup. Despite the tension, neither is willing to give up their cruise ticket, resulting in an awkward journey aboard the Sovereign of the Sea. With Deacon determined to win Chrissy back and lingering feelings from her ex-husband complicating matters, the cruise becomes a backdrop for self-discovery and potential reconciliation. Amidst humorous situations and unexpected encounters, Chrissy must navigate her emotions and decide whether to embrace a second chance at love or abandon ship altogether.

The dual perspectives provide a deeper understanding of Chrissy and Deacon's motivations, while the forced proximity of the cruise setting adds to the comedic tension. The exploration of relationship dynamics, including miscommunication and the challenges of moving on from past relationships, resonates with many readers. Additionally, the unique twist of a LARPing cruise adds an adventurous element, enhancing the romantic escapade. With memorable characters and a satisfying journey toward love, this book is a delightful read for anyone who enjoys a mix of humor, romance, and self-discovery.  There is a lot of drama and some sexy times.  I think some of the past reviews went in a little hard on a book that is meant to be a fun escape.  This would be THE perfect book to pack for a cruise.  I  think it would also appeal to fans of Below Deck and Dr. Odyssey - ship romances are having a moment!

Holiday With a Hitman #2: A Very Merry Hitman by Katie Reus book review

In "A Very Merry Hitman," Aileen navigates life in a neighborhood filled with hitmen, including her own family. As a single mom and ASMRtist, she’s stopped dating because of a violent past with a man.  A decade after the incident, she thinks she might be ready to consider a date or friends with benefits.  She decides to ask her neighbor Dante, an intimidating hitman, for help. However, when he hesitates, Aileen takes it as a rejection. But just as she yes to a blind date set up by her sister-in-law, danger strikes as two Santas attempt to rob her. This prompts Dante to take action, stepping up to protect Aileen and her daughter, Nessa. The story unfolds with a delightful mix of holiday cheer, suspense, and a slow-burning romance as Dante and Aileen confront their feelings amidst the chaos.

I'm a little torn on the classification of this book.  On the one hand, is it dark romance because of all the hitmen and death at their hands?  Or it is a sweet Christmas romance? It's definitely unique, with some morally grey areas.  The chemistry between Aileen and Dante is palpable, providing a sizzling romance that keeps readers reading!  Once they start.....whoooooo boy..... Aileen's relatable struggles as a single mom make her an easy character to root for, while Dante's overprotective nature adds a twist to their relationship. The quirky interactions with Aileen's nosy family and their antics bring a delightful hitman sort of levity to the story. The dialogue is fun the plot is darkish and quirky, this book offers a new twist on the friends-to-lovers trope within a community of hitmen. The mix of danger and festive cheer creates an one of a kind of reading experience that will leave fans craving more from the series.  I really liked it.  It's a quick read.  I meant to read it before Christmas, but I just now finished in March.   I still recommend for anytime of the year...but if you want your holiday books during the holidays, hold on to this one for December.

Cosmic Chaos #1:I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I'm Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming book review

Dorothy (Dory) Valentine, is a nearly PhD wildlife biology student who dreams of being a zoologist. Her life takes a wild turn when she is attacked by a lion and subsequently abducted by aliens. She crash-lands on a vibrant planet filled with dinosaurs and meets two alluring alien males, Sol and Lok. The story blends humor, adventure, and unexpected romance as Dory navigates her chaotic new reality. The aliens’ forced attraction through a hormone-laced dart and guage measuring their attraction by a owilsh voyeur. With a mix of comedy and thrilling escapades, Dory must confront her feelings and the bizarre circumstances that brought her to this unusual world. Does she want to get back to earth?

I will admit that the alien romance is not my usual choice.  The title stuck out to me along with the wild cover.  I couldn't resist.   Readers will appreciate the unique premise that combines sci-fi elements with romantic tropes. The witty banter and strong character development make Dorothy relatable, while her interactions with the charming but dangerous aliens, Sol and Lok, create a compelling MMF love triangle. The humor and chaos keep the pace lively, ensuring an entertaining read. Additionally, the underlying themes of consent and self-discovery add layers to the sexy escapades. Readers drawn to fantastical settings, strong female leads, and steamy MMF dynamics will find this book enticing. The wild and wacky plot, quirky characters, and vibrant world make it a delightful escape for those seeking to push their romance boundaries. I thought it was fun, but totally wild.  It won't be for every reader.  You have to go into it suspending your expectations of reality...but then you can start counting the creative ways Dory gets her orgasms.  There might be an underlying message about the incompetence of bureaucracy, which clearly transcends all alternate realities 🤣

A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal: #2 The Queen’s Deadly Damsels by Darcy McGuire book review

This book follows Millicent Whittenburg, a clever and resourceful heroine determined to escape her unpleasant betrothal to an older man, Viscount Tread, orchestrated by her wicked stepmother. Their fiery kiss ignites undeniable chemistry, leading to a marriage of convenience that neither anticipated. As they navigate a week-long wedding house party while investigating a dangerous human trafficking scheme, the stakes rise, testing their bond. With a blend of romance, espionage, and intrigue, this novel artfully intertwines passion and mystery against the rich backdrop of Regency England.

While Millicent sets out to trap Drake, the unexpected chemistry between them is super fun. As the reader, I didn’t expect that and neither did the characters! The author did a great job writing steamy romance with a twisty mystery. The book will suck you in and you won’t be able to put it down. Who doesn’t love spicy scenes, with some added knife throwing? The strong-willed female protagonist defies societal norms, and her group of friends add a lot of fun to the story. The novel's humor, emotional depth, and intricate plot ensure that readers experience a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving us anticipating the next installment in this exciting series.  I started out by reading book two in this series, but now I am going to go back and read the first and third one.

Book #4 Rebel Blue Ranch: Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage book review

Camille Ashwood has a plan to marry, secure her daughter’s future and make her parents happy. But when her fiancé leaves her at the altar, her life takes an unexpected turn. Finding herself living next door to Dusty Tucker, her high school sweetheart, sparks old feelings and unresolved issues. Dusty, who has been running from his past and his feelings for Cam, now faces the possibility of rekindling their relationship. Their journey is filled with emotional tension, as they navigate the complexities of their past while discovering if their love can withstand the test of time. With a blend of second-chance romance and small-town charm, this story revisits old and new characters at the Rebel Blue Ranch.

Oh man! I LOVED "Wild and Wrangled"! Camille is a strong, relatable heroine who embodies resilience while facing life's challenges as a single mother. Her character development resonates with readers, making her journey feel authentic and engaging. Dusty is the quintessential broody hero, and his deep-seated feelings for Cam add layers to their relationship that I loved and found myself hoping (right along with Dusty). I would say it is kind of a slow burn at the beginning, but then….whooooo-boy! Their connection is hot. I love their history and I wanted the backstory just as much as Ada did. The small-town ranch vibes are great, like the previous three books. Readers will be left swooning, rooting for Camille and Dusty’s happily-ever-after as they soak up their rekindled romance and watch news spread around town. I really like the family connections, the strong friendships and the hilarious characters. I’m sad that the series is over, but grateful that it was spread out over four books. The cover is to die for. It’s got the best vintage vibes that I have seen on a romance cover in a very long time.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing/Dial Press Trade Paperback for an ARC of this book.

Dream Harbor #1: The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore book review

In "The Pumpkin Spice Café," a spicy small-town cozy romance that has been trending on TikTok. Jeanie inherits the quaint Pumpkin Spice Café in Dream Harbor, seeking a fresh start from her dead end desk job. Her vibrant personality and delightful pumpkin spice lattes brighten the small town, but they also disrupt the life of Logan, a local farmer known for his grumpiness and avoidance of gossip. Despite his initial reluctance, Logan finds himself inexplicably drawn to Jeanie, leading to a mix of tension and chemistry between the two. As Jeanie's sunny demeanor attempts to crack Logan's tough exterior, readers are taken on a journey filled with humor, warmth, and a hint of mystery. While the story captures cozy autumn vibes and a grumpy x sunshine dynamic, it also explores themes of self-discovery and the joy of finding family in unexpected places. With a heartwarming ending guaranteed, this romantic mystery is perfect for a weekend read.

This book has been in romance circles for a while now and I just picked it up at a book store. (I'm a little late to the party)  I’m glad I didn’t look at the reviews before I read it. I loved it!. It was just as promised: cute, cozy, a bit of spice and and an HEA. All the things I am looking for in a small town romance. The reviews are brutal. Not enough spice, too much spice, too Hallmark movie. Yikes! The pumpkin spice vibe is a fun blend of cozy autumn atmosphere and engaging character dynamics. The grumpy x sunshine trope provides a compelling contrast that keeps the story lively, while Jeanie's cheerful spirit and Logan's brooding nature create a captivating push-and-pull. I love the small-town setting, which adds depth and charm to the narrative. The book also incorporates elements of found family and a hint of mystery, keeping readers invested in the characters’ journeys. The book ultimately delivers a comforting escape filled with relatable characters and heartwarming moments. This story is a perfect pick for those seeking a light-hearted read that evokes the essence of fall and the warmth of community. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series!

Lords of Hazard: Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart #1 by Sabrina Jeffries book review

In "Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart," author Sabrina Jeffries introduces readers to Lord Jonathan Leighton, who returns to England after being detained for eleven long years in a French prison during the Napoleonic Wars. Upon his return, he discovers that he has inherited the dukedom of Falconridge following the deaths of his father and brothers. Haunted by guilt over the death of his mentor, who entrusted him with the care of his daughter Victoria Morris, Jonathan resolves to help her secure a suitable marriage. However, Victoria, a passionate artist with dreams of opening a school for women, has no intention of marrying. As Jonathan and Victoria navigate their complicated pasts and burgeoning feelings for each other, secrets unfold, and they must confront their own vulnerabilities. This story weaves a tale of guilt, redemption, and love, set against the backdrop of a society that has changed in his absence.

Romance readers will love this book for its rich character development and emotional depth. The author crafts a narrative filled with witty banter and palpable chemistry between Jonathan and Victoria, making their journey toward love both engaging and relatable. Readers will appreciate the strong, independent heroine who defies societal expectations, as well as the tormented hero grappling with his past. It’s a little countercultural as the duke is interested in a governess. The inclusion of steamy moments, combined with the unique historical context of Napoleonic France and the struggles of reentering society, adds layers of intrigue. With a beautifully woven plot and unresolved mysteries, this novel promises a delightful escape into a world of historical romance, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. It’s well written, it’s fun and I think most historical romance readers will enjoy it. The publication date is April 29, 2025 so put it on your pre-order list! Not So Fast by Karen Booth book review

Not So Fast is a charming romantic comedy centered around Mia Neal, an enthusiastic Formula One podcaster known for her sharp opinions and insights (as a regular fan) into the sport. Mia's explosive take on the handsome British driver, Xander Bishop, garners unexpected attention, leading to a viral moment that thrusts her into the spotlight. When Xander's teammate invites Mia to the Miami Grand Prix, she hopes to gain a deeper understanding of Xander's racing style. Their first meeting did not go as expected, but there was definitely some chemistry! As they navigate their contrasting personalities, Mia's neurodiverse traits and Xander's struggles with his racing career create a suspenseful and fun dynamic. The story balances humor and emotion, exploring themes of self-awareness, mental health, and personal growth, all while keeping readers engrossed in the thrilling world of F1 racing.

Like many of the reviews are stating, I also did not/do not have much experience with the world of Formula 1 racing. So, I enjoyed learning about some of the terminology and realized that the author has to have a pretty good depth of knowledge to write all the details. I love the enemies-to-lovers storyline and the sizzling tension between Mia and Xander. The witty banter and genuine connection between the characters create an engaging reading experience. Mia's journey of self-discovery, coupled with Xander's vulnerability as a professional athlete, adds depth to the story. The book intertwines humor with heartfelt moments, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy light-hearted yet meaningful narratives. Additionally, the exploration of mental health and family dynamics adds authenticity to the story, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a personal level. With its fast-paced plot and relatable themes, Not So Fast is a must-read for fans of feel-good romances that leave a lasting impression. I’m glad I went out of my reading comfort zone with this book. It was a lot of fun and I could not put it down once I started it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for an ARC of this book.
