When a Rogue Meets His Match by Elizabeth Hoyt

Gideon Hawthorne emerges from the gritty depths of St. Giles, a man with a complex past and a rough exterior. Tasked with doing the Duke of Windermere’s dirty work, his primary desires are wealth and the affection of Messalina. The character development in this novel is impressive, keeping readers guessing throughout. Gideon immediately draws readers in with his complex personality and hidden secrets. His interactions with those he employs reveal layers to his character, making his journey all the more compelling.

Messalina Greycourt, now Hawthorne, is a fierce and resilient heroine. Having endured a challenging childhood marked by loss, she presents a strong front. Beneath her tough exterior lies a kind heart, as she learns to navigate her complicated feelings toward her husband. As the story progresses, Messalina's understanding of Gideon’s background and her growth as a character highlight her compassion and strength. Her evolution from loathing to love is beautifully portrayed, showcasing her ability to empathize with those around her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kudos to Hoyt for her consistent writing style. Together, Gideon and Messalina create an electrifying dynamic, their fiery chemistry evident in their interactions. Their intimate moments are charged with passion, making them a captivating couple whose journey is both heartwarming and thrilling. Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of historical romance. Highly recommended! The world of Greycourt is one I’m eager to revisit. Here’s to the next installment—I can hardly wait!
